It is an important function of a county comprehensive plan to establish the future land use vision for the county. One of the fundamental roles of a county comprehensive plan in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is to include a general land use plan for the county. The comprehensive plans of individual or groups of municipalities in the county then are required to be “generally consistent” with this land use plan. According to a public opinion survey conducted in conjunction with this comprehensive plan, residents are clearly calling for a broad land use policy for the county that identifies areas where growth and development should occur as well as areas where the existing rural/natural landscapes should remain undeveloped (2014 Crawford County Comprehensive Plan, L1).Our vision for land use: “Crawford County provides consistent county-wide land use regulations and helps inform and educate municipalities regarding sound land use practices. County and local land use policies strive to accommodate new development while preserving the valuable natural and cultural resources that residents value” (2014 Crawford County Comprehensive Plan, L5).
